The 16th Annual Sts Kiril & Metodii Bulgarian Cultural Festival is the hearth of the 16th ANTIKA BULGARIA San Francisco FESTIVITIES 2016. The festival will present a rich feast of music (made by your own local/West-Coast Varimezovi Family, Bebelekovi Family, Rumen-Sali Shopov, more...), folklore dances (by guests, Zharava, as well as the local Antika and Rosna Kitka), a folk dance and singing workshop with Gergana Panova, Tanya Kostova, and Daniela Ivanova-Nyberg, along with delightful Bulgarian wine and Bulgarian culinary delights, ...


Workshops & Bay Area Bulgaria Has Got Talent:

3 pm

Dance workshop with Gergana Panova, Tanya Kostova, and Daniela Ivanova-Nyberg.

Singing workshop with Tsvetanka Varimezova.

Children’s workshop with Biliana Stremska.

4 pm

“Fashion-show” of unique authentic Bulgarian traditional costumes.

Martenichki Bulgarian Children School - medley of Bulgarian songs and poems.

Da Mozhem! - local Bulgarian folk musicians warm-up dancers to the dancing floor

5 pm - Dinner Break: "На трапеза" / "At the table"
Slow Rhodope and other Bulgarian ballads performed by Vassil Bebelekov, Ivan Varimezov, and Tsvetanka Varimezova.

Opening words by Tanya Kostova (and tentatively Bulgarian Consulate Head in L.A.)

Antika Slavic Strings (San Francisco)
Antika Slavic Strings (San Francisco Bay Area) is a classical music formation of string players, celebrating the spirit of the Slavic (and Bulgarian) music, and its deep connections with the folklore traditions.
Directed by Emanuela Nikiforova.

Fanfare Zambaleta Brass Band (Oakland, CA)
Fiery Bulgarian and Balkan brass sound by the locally incubated brass band that has adopted the Balkan brass style. FZ features some of the Bay Area's most exciting young musicians and seasoned veterans.

Zharava Folk Dance Ensemble (Washington DC)
Zharava's mission is to preserve the rich Bulgarian folk-dance tradition, and to enhance the awareness of Bulgarian folk arts (including dance, music, song and rhythm) throughout the U.S. and the world. It was established in January, 2007 and has included multiple "generations" of enthusiastic members, who are/have been natives of Bulgaria, Russia and the U.S.

Bulgarian national treasures of Rhodope Mountain style singing and bagpipe music!

Antika Ensemble
Antika Bulgarian Ensemble and Cultural Club was founded by Tanya Kostova (aristic director and choreographer) because of parents interest in the folk dances and songs Tanya was teaching their kids to. Six years later, many enthusiastic Bulgarians of the Bay Area have grown to more deeply understand, practive, live their own traditions, folklore dances and songs.

Varimezovi Family Band (Los Angeles)
Goes without saying who they are: Bulgarian national treasures of folkore music and singing. Tsvetanka and Ivan Varimezov are joined by their talented radiant daughters Tanya and Radka Varimezovi.

Rosna Kitka (Sacramento)
Rosna Kitka is a group of Bulgarian and Serbian folk-dance enthusiasts exploring folklore from around and in between Bulgaria and Serbia.

Merkalii and Rumen-Sali Shopov
Performing traditional, Wedding-style, and arranged Bulgarian folklore music. The band was conceived at the extensive Balkan and Romani Ensemble music/singing workshop led by Rumen-Sali Shopov at the Berkeley Jazz School.
