forras_300Hailing from Vancouver (Canada) and Seattle, Forras is a driving force in the North American Hungarian folk scene. The ensemble plays traditional village music from Central Europe. Forras' performances are both entertaining and educational and the players present the traditional lifestyle of the peasant musician – individually they would often put down their instruments and dance. Their repertoire includes music of Hungarian, Romanian and Romany (Gypsy) origin played on stringed instruments such as violin, a three-stringed viola called the kontra and double bass.
Forras is: Laszlo Orban – lead violin; Lajos Miklos – kontra (modified viola); Mike Pratt – double bass
