Edessa - Macedonian music

Together more than a decade, Edessa performs folk dance music of Macedonia, Bulgaria, Albania and Greece. Edessa (named after a town in northern Greece) calls its style "Balkan without from an area that has been a cultural crossroads for centuries." It is the music that inspired the late David Nadel when he created Ashkenaz. The ensemble features Dan Auvil (tupan, doumbek, defi), George Chittenden (clarinet, saxophone, guitar), Ari Langer (violin), Lise Liepman (accordion, santouri, kanun, tambourine), and Rumen Sali Shopov (percussion).
